If you are involved in social media, media, advertisements, or anything newsworthy, chances are you have at least heard someone mention”CBD” or”CBD oil.” The simple fact is it can come in many different shapes and sizes – not only oil but more on that later. Read through to learn more about CBD.
What is CBD, And Does CBD Come From?
CBD stands for Cannabidiol and is from cannabis or hemp. And no, it isn’t a psychoactive substance and therefore won’t get you high. It comes in the same place as THC (the active substance that will help you get high) but has a very different influence on your brain.
Let’s take a step back. Hemp and Cannabis plants are very similar, they are the same species, but hemp contains a tiny THC percentage (0.3 percent or less). In comparison, cannabis comprises at least greater than 0.3 percent. This is an important distinction as THC is the psychoactive substance that may get you high. Cannabis includes cannabinoids, which are very much like ones we have inside our brains (and the way they can bind to receptors). This isn’t likely to become a scientific post, though. While there are over 100 cannabinoids found within cannabis, there are currently two which discuss the many, CBD and THC. There have been a rising number of discoveries on account of the decriminalization of marijuana and ever-unfolding legalization around Canada for CBD Canada and a growing number of states in the USA. CBD has been touted as really safe and effective for several remedies.
Forms of CBD
To not make it more confusing, but there are many different forms that CBD can come in:
- CBD Oil
- CBD Isolate
- CBD Crystals
- CBD Wax
- CBD E-liquids
These different forms create many specific products on the current market, from oil offered to lotions to bath bombs and even CBD gummies.
Benefits of Utilizing CBD Based Products
There is a rising number of studies using CBD and a massive number of anecdotal evidence. Be advised I am not a medical professional, nor do I claim to be so. Everything here is for informational purposes only, and you should consult your healthcare provider prior to making any decisions regarding your health and wellbeing.
Among the most claimed benefits of CBD is that it may reduce pain. Folks have a method called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which will help regulate functions such as sleep, pain, and appetite.
Your body will produce endocannabinoids, neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system. CBD has been shown to lessen chronic pain by changing endocannabinoid receptor activity, which reduces swelling. In rats, CBD injections reduced the pain response to cuts.
There are several human studies, of which some discovered that combining CBD and THC was effective in treating pain, especially related to arthritis and MS.
Stress & Depression
Along with pain, CBD has been shown initial success in the reduction of depression and anxiety. Even if this will help a bit, it may be a very promising option for pharmaceutical-grade products on the marketplace. If nothing else, then ask your physician to be an alternative worth trying without lots of risks. Never stop taking any medication without visiting your physician first.
The jury is still out on this one because of the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD that it may reduce Acne. Acne affects almost 10% of the USA population, so there is a market for a powerful and viable product.
Many Other Possible Benefits
We use the term Potential quite carefully here as trials continue to develop, and a great deal of research is still hypothetical. There are many articles on Healthline that summarize a number of these benefits.
CBD has been utilized as a substance abuse treatment by changing certain neural pathways from the mind. To date, studies have been shown on rats. However, more research is necessary on people.
More animal research shows that there might be an advantage in preventing tumors, particularly the spread of existing tumors.
Lastly, due to the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD, signs are demonstrating that it could result in fewer diabetes incidents among the individuals who have diabetes. Again, these are all animal-based studies.
